If you’re wondering, yes, duct tape wallets are still super cool and yes, you need to learn how to make one right now. So, ignore all those other tutorials online because this one is super easy and only takes about 10 minutes! Check it out!

My husband was actually the first person to introduce me to duct tape wallets when we were dating. He made one right in front of my eyes. It was true love. But, seriously though, they are really easy to make and are perfect as homemade gifts. So, let’s get started.

Gather your duct tape wallet supplies

You’ll just need a few essentially to get started on this exciting craft. Here’s the list:

• Crafting duct tape (two different colors)
• Scissors or Exacto knife (scissors tend to get sticky from the tape, so Exacto knives work better if you have one)
• Measuring tape
• Cutting mat (optional)

You can make these wallets with just plain old gray duct tape, but I prefer patterned tape. Here’s some options:

• Tye dye
• Starry galaxy
• Camo
• Polka dot
• Smiley faces

Create the duct tape fabric

First, you’ll need to create a sheet of duct tape “fabric” that will form your wallet. It’s basically about an 8″ x 8″ square of duct tape with sticky sides together. To do this, cut four 9″ strips of duct tape for the main color of your wallet. Then, cut five 9″ strips of duct tape for the interior color and border of your wallet. Each strip doesn’t have to be exactly nine inches. You can just eye ball it.

Connect the four strips of duct tape of the same color together horizontally. Overlap each strip slightly onto each other until they are all connected.

Then, tape the five remaining strips of duct tape (of a different color) to the sheet of four strips (sticky sides together). Leave about a 1/2″ overhang on the top and bottom and then fold those edges over to form a border.

Trim and fold your wallet

Next, you’ll want to trim off the uneven edges of both sides of the duct tape fabric. It’s okay if it’s not a perfectly straight line. Then, fold the fabric like a hot dog so the open ends are on top. If the sides don’t line up exactly when you fold it, you can trim the sides a little bit more so they’re straight.

Make pocket and close sides

Now, you’ll want to close the sides of the wallet and finish the border. To do this, cut one strip of gray duct tape a little longer than the height of the folded wallet. Then, cut that small strip in half length-wise. Use one of those strips to fold over the left edge of the wallet and close off the left side. Trim the excess.

Before you do the same step on the right side to close it off, you’ll need to form the credit card pocket. Cut two strips of duct tape a little longer than the width of a credit card. Stick both of those strips sticky side together and place on the lower right side of the wallet. Then, seal of the right side of the wallet with the remaining small strip of duct tape and trim the excess.

Cut another piece of duct tape the same size as the credit card pocket and stick it on the lower half of the already placed credit card pocket piece. Add one more strip of duct tape to finish the left side of the credit card pocket.

Duct tape wallet tips and tricks

• Exacto knife: An Exacto knife is much easier to use because scissors get gummed up by the duct tape.
• Measurements: You don’t have to be exact in your measurements. Just use a measuring tape to make sure the beginning strips are 9 inches long.
• Cutting mat: When trimming and cut pieces of duct tape, try using a cutting mat or even a cutting board.
• Kids: If your child wants to participate, try making the duct tape fabric first since that is the most difficult part.
• Great gift idea: Duct tape wallets are the perfect homemade gift for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, birthdays, Christmas or just for fun!
• Additional pockets: If you want to get even more fancy, try adding more pockets on the right and left sides.
• Different colors: Add your own style to your wallets by experimenting with different borders, patterns and colors.
