Here’s a Christmas twist on the classic Halloween mystery boxes game that your kids will love this holiday season. It’s called Mystery Christmas Stockings Game and it’s festive fun for the whole family plus and extra dose of excitement. Check it out!

Every year I do Halloween mystery boxes in my kids’ classes at school and they absolutely love it. So, I figure, let’s do mystery Christmas stockings and add a magical touch to the holidays. It’s perfect for family get-togethers to spread holiday cheer. Here’s how to do it:

Gather mystery stockings supplies

You can make this pretty easily. You’ll need some stocking fillers for this fun Christmas game. Here are the holiday items you’ll need:

• Nine mini stockings (or regular stockings) 
• Hershey’s bells 
• Hershey’s kisses
• Pretzel sticks or Christmas candy corn
• Mini marshmallows
• Mini candy canes
• Milk duds or Whoppers
• Christmas sprinkles
• Fruit roll ups
• Chocolate coins

Since you’ll only be using a small amount of each item from the list above to place in the stockings, you can use what’s left over to place in baggies and give to each of the kids at the end of the game. Whatever you prefer.

Prep your supplies

Place two or three of each item on the list above in the individual stockings. Since the stockings are pretty small, they are perfect for little hands to reach inside without being able to see the contents.

You can give this recipe card to each of the kids at the end with their baggie of goodies.

Start playing the game

Gather the kids together in a circle on the floor. Depending on the age group, you can decided who can play. Younger kids can play too. It will definitely add to the jolly adventure if you can dress up like Mrs. Claus and make the kids think that you are her in the flesh. Awards for best actor. But if you don’t have a Mrs. Claus costume, at least wear a Santa hat. You can also have Santa Claus show up if you want. This works great as a Christmas classroom party, office party, Christmas parties or large groups as well.

Begin this magical journey by telling the kids that on Christmas eve, Mrs. Claus likes to make a special Christmas dinner for Santa and his elves when they get home from delivering presents all night long. 

In order to make the dinner, she has to gather magical ingredients. Ask the kids if they want to feel the ingredients in her magical stockings. Then, one by one, explain what each ingredient is and let them feel them inside the stockings.  Don’t let them peek while engaging in Santa’s silly stocking search. Here’s the list of items:

• Elf kisses (Hershey’s kisses)
• Snowballs (mini marshmallows)
• Angel dust (sprinkles)
• Christmas tree sticks (candy canes)
• Wrapping paper (Fruit roll up)
• Reindeer poop (milk duds)
• Silver bells (Hershey’s bells)
• Snowman noses (Christmas candy corn or pretzels)
• Gingerbread dough (chocolate coins)

After they feel all of the ingredients, take each stocking and mix them together in a larger stocking. Then, pull out some printed pictures (download below) of a turkey dinner (that you conveniently placed in the stock beforehand) and show them the fancy dinner that everyone at the North Pole gets to have on Christmas day. Give the kids their goodies

This is the best part (at least for the kids). Take your extra goodies, place them in a bag and attach Mrs. Claus’ Magical Christmas Dinner recipe onto the bag. They are going to LOVE it! So fun and magical.  

This is a great game to play on Thanksgiving day or at a Christmas party to get the kids excited for Christmas. I hope you have a great time. It will be a guaranteed hit!
