<figure id="attachment_1120" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-1120" style="width: 652px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img decoding="async" class="wp-image-1120" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180627_160259537-203x300.jpg" alt="welcome sign" width="652" height="964" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180627_160259537-203x300.jpg 203w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180627_160259537-250x369.jpg 250w" sizes="(max-width: 652px) 100vw, 652px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-1120" class="wp-caption-text">DIY Pallet Porch Welcome Sign</figcaption></figure>
<p><span id="more-1119"></span></p>
<p>Admittedly, this was my first pallet project.  But it will definitely not be my last.  It was surprisingly easy and fun.  So let&#8217;s get started.</p>
<p><iframe title="DIY Pallet Welcome Sign" width="720" height="405" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/K0AizQd8_Co?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<h1>Step #1: Assemble welcome sign</h1>
<p>I got some free pallets from a local classified ad. The hardest part about this whole project was taking apart the pallet and that wasn&#8217;t even too bad if you have the right tools. Fortunately, there&#8217;s a million resources on Pinterest on <a href="https://paintedfurnitureideas.com/ways-to-disassemble-a-pallet/">how to disassemble a pallet</a>. Here&#8217;s three main ways to do it:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Pry bar and hammer</strong>: Instructions <a href="https://www.lemonthistle.com/disassemble-pallet/">here</a>.</li>
<li><strong>Sawsall: </strong>Instructions <a href="http://oldworldgardenfarms.com/2012/09/18/building-with-pallets-how-to-disassemble-a-pallet-with-ease-for-great-wood/#prettyPhoto">here</a>.</li>
<li><strong>Circular saw</strong>: Instructions <a href="http://www.mimiberrycreations.com/2015/05/part-1-from-pallet-to-picture-perfect.html">here</a>.</li>
</ul>
<figure id="attachment_1121" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-1121" style="width: 651px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-1121" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_114344934-300x225.jpg" alt="welcome sign" width="651" height="488" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_114344934-300x225.jpg 300w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_114344934-768x576.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_114344934-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_114344934-250x188.jpg 250w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_114344934-1200x900.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_114344934-600x450.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 651px) 100vw, 651px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-1121" class="wp-caption-text">My sawsall cutting the nails on one of my pallets.</figcaption></figure>
<p>I actually took apart this pallet using a combination of all three methods. I was just glad my husband had all the tools already.  Plus I was pretty proud of myself for using the circular saw without cutting my finger off.</p>
<figure id="attachment_1122" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-1122" style="width: 672px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-1122" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Pallet-measurments-300x113.jpg" alt="welcome sign" width="672" height="253" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Pallet-measurments-300x113.jpg 300w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Pallet-measurments-768x290.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Pallet-measurments-1024x386.jpg 1024w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Pallet-measurments-250x94.jpg 250w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Pallet-measurments-1200x452.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Pallet-measurments-600x226.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 672px) 100vw, 672px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-1122" class="wp-caption-text">Measurement for the pallets that you need to assemble.</figcaption></figure>
<p>Once your pallet is taken apart, you&#8217;ll need to assemble three long pieces and two short pieces to match the image and the measurements above. Nail the short pieces and the to the long pieces.</p>
<figure id="attachment_1123" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-1123" style="width: 656px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-1123" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_125501375-225x300.jpg" alt="Welcome sign" width="656" height="875" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_125501375-225x300.jpg 225w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_125501375-768x1024.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_125501375-250x333.jpg 250w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_125501375-1200x1600.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_125501375-600x800.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 656px) 100vw, 656px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-1123" class="wp-caption-text">Nails you should use to assemble your welcome sign.</figcaption></figure>
<h1>Step #2: Paint</h1>
<p>After I assembled the welcome sign, next came the fun part. Using  <a href="https://amzn.to/2WzFiJa" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">barn wood stain</a>, I painted the wood in sections and then quickly wiped the stain with a paper towel.  It gives the wood an antique barn wood effect.</p>
<figure id="attachment_1124" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-1124" style="width: 671px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-1124" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_131049754-300x225.jpg" alt="welcome sign" width="671" height="503" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_131049754-300x225.jpg 300w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_131049754-768x576.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_131049754-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_131049754-250x188.jpg 250w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_131049754-1200x900.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_131049754-600x450.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 671px) 100vw, 671px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-1124" class="wp-caption-text">My welcome sign in the process of being stained.</figcaption></figure>
<p>Next, you&#8217;ll need to stencil the &#8220;Welcome&#8221; letters onto the wood. Use this <a href="https://mailchi.mp/fdae118afc75/pallet-welcome-sign" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">FREE PRINTABLE &#8211; Welcome stencil letters</a> and print out each individual letter. Then using a utility knife, carefully cut out the interior of each letter until you form a stencil. If you didn&#8217;t notice, you won&#8217;t need the letter &#8220;O&#8221; since you&#8217;ll be replacing the &#8220;O&#8221; with pictures.</p>
<figure id="attachment_1126" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-1126" style="width: 663px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-1126" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_142636003-300x187.jpg" alt="welcome sign" width="663" height="413" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_142636003-300x187.jpg 300w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_142636003-768x480.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_142636003-1024x640.jpg 1024w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_142636003-250x156.jpg 250w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_142636003-1200x750.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_142636003-600x375.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 663px) 100vw, 663px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-1126" class="wp-caption-text">A letter &#8220;M&#8221; that I cut out to make a stencil.</figcaption></figure>
<p>Finally, use the stencils to paint the letters onto the welcome sign, making sure you leave a blank space for the missing &#8220;O&#8221;.  I used a circular foam brush to lightly dab the paint onto the pallet.</p>
<figure id="attachment_1127" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-1127" style="width: 687px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-1127" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_144235406-225x300.jpg" alt="Welcome sign" width="687" height="916" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_144235406-225x300.jpg 225w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_144235406-768x1024.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_144235406-250x333.jpg 250w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_144235406-1200x1600.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180626_144235406-600x800.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 687px) 100vw, 687px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-1127" class="wp-caption-text">Paint being stenciled onto the welcome sign.</figcaption></figure>
<h1>Step #3: Add pictures and burlap</h1>
<p>Yay! Here&#8217;s the final touches. Download your printable 12 months of pictures for your welcome sign at the end of this blog post and send it to your local printer and print each page on cardstock and laminate them.</p>
<p>Then cut all of them out and add a piece of velcro to the back of each one. Put the one piece of the opposite velcro piece on the welcome sign where the &#8220;O&#8221; should be. Add some burlap to the top.</p>
<figure id="attachment_1129" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-1129" style="width: 645px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-1129" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180627_152904331-300x225.jpg" alt="welcome sign" width="645" height="484" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180627_152904331-300x225.jpg 300w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180627_152904331-768x576.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180627_152904331-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180627_152904331-250x188.jpg 250w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180627_152904331-1200x900.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180627_152904331-600x450.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 645px) 100vw, 645px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-1129" class="wp-caption-text">All twelve welcome sign pictures cut out.</figcaption></figure>
<p>You&#8217;re done! I was so excited about this final product. It looks so fun on my front porch and I love that I can change out the pictures every month!  I can decorate for every holiday without hardly any effort at all.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1130" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/month-pallet-pictures-244x300.jpg" alt="" width="664" height="816" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/month-pallet-pictures-244x300.jpg 244w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/month-pallet-pictures-768x944.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/month-pallet-pictures-833x1024.jpg 833w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/month-pallet-pictures-250x307.jpg 250w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/month-pallet-pictures-1200x1475.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/month-pallet-pictures-600x737.jpg 600w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/month-pallet-pictures.jpg 1903w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 664px) 100vw, 664px" /></p>
