<figure class="wp-block-image"><img decoding="async" width="2250" height="3000" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_112741581.jpg" alt="welcome home" class="wp-image-1557" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_112741581.jpg 2250w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_112741581-225x300.jpg 225w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_112741581-768x1024.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_112741581-250x333.jpg 250w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_112741581-1200x1600.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_112741581-600x800.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 2250px) 100vw, 2250px" /><figcaption>Yellow balloons to welcome home a missionary.</figcaption></figure>

<span id="more-1556"></span>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I don&#8217;t have kids who are old enough to serve a mission. But my neighbor just welcomed her first missionary home. So I offered to decorate her front yard for the exciting occasion. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img decoding="async" width="1808" height="3000" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Welcome-home-missionary_Pinterest.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1566" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Welcome-home-missionary_Pinterest.jpg 1808w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Welcome-home-missionary_Pinterest-181x300.jpg 181w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Welcome-home-missionary_Pinterest-768x1274.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Welcome-home-missionary_Pinterest-617x1024.jpg 617w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Welcome-home-missionary_Pinterest-250x415.jpg 250w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Welcome-home-missionary_Pinterest-1200x1991.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Welcome-home-missionary_Pinterest-600x996.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1808px) 100vw, 1808px" /></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Buy A LOT of yellow ribbon and balloons</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The <a href="https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/tie-a-yellow-ribbon-round-the-old-oak-tree-tops-the-u-s-pop-charts-and-creates-a-cultural-phenomenon">yellow ribbon</a>— has long been a symbol of support for absent or missing loved ones. So, hanging yellow ribbon and balloons are perfect since two years (year and a half for girls) is a really long time to be away from home. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Buy helium balloons with hi float which allows them to float for 2-3 days. They are a little bit more expensive but definitely worth it. I bought 25 balloons but you can buy as many as you want. The more the better.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="2367" height="2700" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_095024430.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1558" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_095024430.jpg 2367w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_095024430-263x300.jpg 263w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_095024430-768x876.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_095024430-898x1024.jpg 898w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_095024430-250x285.jpg 250w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_095024430-1200x1369.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_095024430-600x684.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 2367px) 100vw, 2367px" /><figcaption>Helium balloons with hi float.</figcaption></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Attach balloons to skewers</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Wrap a small rubber band around the dull end of a wooden skewer. Then tie the end of the ribbon attached to each balloon just below the rubber band. This will prevent the ribbon from slipping off the skewer and the balloon floating away.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1860" height="2200" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_100109222-1.jpg" alt="welcome home" class="wp-image-1560" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_100109222-1.jpg 1860w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_100109222-1-254x300.jpg 254w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_100109222-1-768x908.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_100109222-1-866x1024.jpg 866w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_100109222-1-250x296.jpg 250w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_100109222-1-1200x1419.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_100109222-1-600x710.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1860px) 100vw, 1860px" /><figcaption>Rubber band and balloon ribbon tied to a skewer.</figcaption></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Cover your lawn with balloons</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Carefully push the sharp end of the skewer into the grass. Be careful because you might get a sliver or snap the skewer in half. Scatter the balloons randomly across the yard or you can line them in an organized way. Whatever you want. The more balloons the better.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="2266" height="2700" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_111554561-1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1562" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_111554561-1.jpg 2266w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_111554561-1-252x300.jpg 252w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_111554561-1-768x915.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_111554561-1-859x1024.jpg 859w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_111554561-1-250x298.jpg 250w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_111554561-1-1200x1430.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_111554561-1-600x715.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 2266px) 100vw, 2266px" /><figcaption>Skewer being pushed into grass.</figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Tie your yellow ribbon everywhere and anywhere. All of the yellow balloons and ribbons will make your missionary&#8217;s eyes light up when they come home for the first time. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="3000" height="1796" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_113848057.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1564" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_113848057.jpg 3000w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_113848057-300x180.jpg 300w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_113848057-768x460.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_113848057-1024x613.jpg 1024w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_113848057-250x150.jpg 250w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_113848057-1200x718.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/IMG_20181031_113848057-600x359.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 3000px) 100vw, 3000px" /><figcaption>Yellow ribbons tied on the fence.</figcaption></figure>

At only 18 years old (19 for girls), you could be called to serve as a missionary anywhere in the world for 18-24 months! Why not make this a memorable event that you can share with your friends and family? Here&#8217;s 16 LDS mission call opening ideas to make opening your mission call a moment you will never forget:</p>
<figure id="attachment_767" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-767" style="width: 897px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-767" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_20180324_163652644-300x194.jpg" alt="Mission call" width="897" height="580" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_20180324_163652644-300x194.jpg 300w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_20180324_163652644-768x497.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_20180324_163652644-1024x662.jpg 1024w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_20180324_163652644-1200x776.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_20180324_163652644-600x388.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 897px) 100vw, 897px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-767" class="wp-caption-text">My nephew&#8217;s mission call waiting on the mantle, ready to be opened.</figcaption></figure>
<p><span id="more-757"></span></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-789" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Mission-Call_Pinterest-181x300.jpg" alt="" width="664" height="1101" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Mission-Call_Pinterest-181x300.jpg 181w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Mission-Call_Pinterest-768x1274.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Mission-Call_Pinterest-617x1024.jpg 617w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Mission-Call_Pinterest-1200x1991.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Mission-Call_Pinterest-600x996.jpg 600w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Mission-Call_Pinterest.jpg 1808w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 664px) 100vw, 664px" /></p>
<p>When I opened my mission call 15 years ago, it was a scaled back event that I shared with just a few of my friends and immediate family. Fortunately, my brother was smart enough to get it on video.</p>
<p><iframe loading="lazy" title="Opening my mission call" width="720" height="540" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/NWC6Q8yJEWQ?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<p>Times have change a bit now and opening your mission call has become, in some cases, a huge event. Here&#8217;s my nephew opening his call:</p>
<p><iframe loading="lazy" title="My nephew opening his mission call" width="720" height="540" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dtkRSS5bkIw?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<p>So, whether you are looking for a more personal event with just a few friends and family or share it with everyone, here&#8217;s some ideas that will make it memorable.</p>
<h1>#1: Decide who you want to be there</h1>
<p>Many might argue that inviting tons of people to watch you open your call takes away from the significance of the event. In that case, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adQM0Ax05o8">try opening it by yourself</a>. If you do want others to be there, it&#8217;s your mission call. You get to decide who you want to be there.</p>
<h1>#2: Consider the location</h1>
<p>Most people open their mission calls at home, however, if you have a lot of people coming, you could do it at a park or outside somewhere. Or you may have somewhere in mind with sentimental significance. For example, where were you when you decided that you wanted to go on a mission?</p>
<h1>#3: Send invites</h1>
<p>Most of the time, when you get your mission call, you don&#8217;t really want to wait very long to open it.  However, if you have the patience, you can email or even mail <a href="https://amzn.to/2FDvjeO" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">invitations</a> to those you would like to attend.</p>
<figure id="attachment_774" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-774" style="width: 665px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-774" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/82ecf01540185b200d7083ac7da6410b-225x300.jpg" alt="" width="665" height="887" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/82ecf01540185b200d7083ac7da6410b-225x300.jpg 225w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/82ecf01540185b200d7083ac7da6410b-768x1024.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/82ecf01540185b200d7083ac7da6410b-1200x1600.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/82ecf01540185b200d7083ac7da6410b-600x800.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 665px) 100vw, 665px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-774" class="wp-caption-text">Source:: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/424956914810271205/</figcaption></figure>
<h1>#4: Tell everyone to come early</h1>
<p>If you&#8217;re going to have a crowd, make sure you tell everyone to arrive at least 30 minutes early.  That way, you&#8217;re not waiting for 30 EXTRA minutes for those stragglers to arrive.</p>
<h1>#5: Decorate your front door</h1>
<p>This would work for a missionary farewell and/or homecoming too but you could decorate your front door to look like a missionary&#8217;s suit. Cute idea.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-779" style="font-weight: bold; background-color: transparent; text-align: inherit;" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/e8f1a6d37ba10e8ff7877e34281d87c6-224x300.jpg" alt="" width="820" height="1098" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/e8f1a6d37ba10e8ff7877e34281d87c6-224x300.jpg 224w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/e8f1a6d37ba10e8ff7877e34281d87c6-768x1028.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/e8f1a6d37ba10e8ff7877e34281d87c6-765x1024.jpg 765w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/e8f1a6d37ba10e8ff7877e34281d87c6-1200x1606.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/e8f1a6d37ba10e8ff7877e34281d87c6-600x803.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 820px) 100vw, 820px" />Source: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/421227371369635450/</p>
<h1>#6: Start with a prayer</h1>
<p>Regardless if you are opening your call with a huge group, just immediate family members or even by yourself, I would recommend saying a prayer before you open it. It will bring the spirit into your heart and prepare you mentally.</p>
<h1>#7: Have a guessing contest</h1>
<p>Grab a<a href="https://amzn.to/2WAA4MX" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> large map of the world</a> and let everyone place their guess with a post-it note. Whoever gets the closest, wins a prize. Tip: Take a picture of all the guesses before you open the call in case people try to move their guess once they find out where you&#8217;re going.</p>
<figure id="attachment_769" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-769" style="width: 679px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-769" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_20180324_162307858-300x225.jpg" alt="Mission call" width="679" height="509" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_20180324_162307858-300x225.jpg 300w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_20180324_162307858-768x577.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_20180324_162307858-1200x902.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_20180324_162307858-600x451.jpg 600w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_20180324_162307858.jpg 2004w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 679px) 100vw, 679px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-769" class="wp-caption-text"><em>Post-it notes pointing to guesses of where my nephew might go on his mission.</em></figcaption></figure>
<h1>#8: Make a globe guestbook</h1>
<p>If you want to remember everyone who came to watch you open your call, instead of a guestbook, grab a <a href="https://amzn.to/2HTLQz5" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">globe</a> and have everyone sign it! Tip: Have them sign it after you open your call so you can circle where you&#8217;re going.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-775" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/A1tgiUTNKdL._SL1500_-204x300.jpg" alt="" width="687" height="1010" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/A1tgiUTNKdL._SL1500_-204x300.jpg 204w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/A1tgiUTNKdL._SL1500_-768x1128.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/A1tgiUTNKdL._SL1500_-697x1024.jpg 697w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/A1tgiUTNKdL._SL1500_-1200x1763.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/A1tgiUTNKdL._SL1500_-600x881.jpg 600w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/A1tgiUTNKdL._SL1500_.jpg 2042w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 687px) 100vw, 687px" /></p>
<p>If you don&#8217;t want to do a globe, just have everyone sign or put their guesses on the mission call envelope.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-778" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/bdf2b3a9853565d0f52d965c3bf90377-300x198.jpg" alt="" width="729" height="481" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/bdf2b3a9853565d0f52d965c3bf90377-300x198.jpg 300w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/bdf2b3a9853565d0f52d965c3bf90377-768x508.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/bdf2b3a9853565d0f52d965c3bf90377-1024x677.jpg 1024w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/bdf2b3a9853565d0f52d965c3bf90377-1200x794.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/bdf2b3a9853565d0f52d965c3bf90377-600x397.jpg 600w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/bdf2b3a9853565d0f52d965c3bf90377.jpg 1950w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 729px) 100vw, 729px" /></p>
<h1>#9: Make a mission advice jar</h1>
<p>As your guests arrive, have an advice jar set out for them to give some tips to being a successful missionary. Basically put a ribbon on a <a href="https://amzn.to/2HZ1W9H" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">mason jar</a> and put some <a href="https://amzn.to/2OyYhk6" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">blank advice cards</a> next to it.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-776" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/41nCMBxPIL-300x300.jpg" alt="" width="729" height="729" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/41nCMBxPIL-300x300.jpg 300w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/41nCMBxPIL-150x150.jpg 150w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/41nCMBxPIL-768x768.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/41nCMBxPIL-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/41nCMBxPIL-1200x1200.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/41nCMBxPIL-600x600.jpg 600w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/41nCMBxPIL-100x100.jpg 100w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/41nCMBxPIL.jpg 1875w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 729px) 100vw, 729px" /></p>
<h1>#10: Capture some mission call photos</h1>
<p>Get a photographer to capture some images of your loved ones guesses and when you open the call.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-770" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/mission-photos-300x205.jpg" alt="Mission call" width="705" height="482" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/mission-photos-300x205.jpg 300w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/mission-photos-768x524.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/mission-photos-1024x699.jpg 1024w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/mission-photos-1200x819.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/mission-photos-600x410.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 705px) 100vw, 705px" /></p>
<h1>#11: Feed the masses</h1>
<p>More than 100 people came to watch my nephew open his mission call.  Although it&#8217;s definitely not expected to feed all of those people, if you feel so inclined, make it easy. My sister-in-law did a cute dessert buffet so we had something to snack on while we were waiting for my nephew to open his call.</p>
<figure id="attachment_771" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-771" style="width: 768px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-771" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_20180324_164446397_HDR-210x300.jpg" alt="Mission call" width="768" height="1097" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_20180324_164446397_HDR-210x300.jpg 210w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_20180324_164446397_HDR-716x1024.jpg 716w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_20180324_164446397_HDR-600x858.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-771" class="wp-caption-text">A dessert buffet at my nephew&#8217;s mission call opening party.</figcaption></figure>
<h1>#12: Pull out your inner Martha Stewart</h1>
<p>If you&#8217;re up for the challenge, there are some way <a href="http://imsharingthewealth.blogspot.com/2011/04/globe-oreo-truffles-and-missionary.html">cute treats</a> you can make for your mission call opening audience.</p>
<figure id="attachment_773" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-773" style="width: 736px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-773" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/mission-treats-300x185.jpg" alt="Mission call" width="736" height="454" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/mission-treats-300x185.jpg 300w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/mission-treats-1024x630.jpg 1024w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/mission-treats-1200x738.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/mission-treats-600x369.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 736px) 100vw, 736px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-773" class="wp-caption-text">Source: http://imsharingthewealth.blogspot.com</figcaption></figure>
<p>Here&#8217;s some other ideas:</p>
<p><a href="http://letsgetcaking.blogspot.com/2012/09/pretty-blue-ruffles.html">Sister Missionary Cake</a></p>
<p><a href="http://wellmixedsweets.blogspot.com/2013/04/mission-call.html">Missionary cookies</a></p>
<h1>#13: Let your family open your call first</h1>
<p>Here&#8217;s a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWNN9BfosLU">different approach</a> that one missionary took when opening his call. Instead of opening his call, he let his family open it and then he asked questions to guess where he was going.</p>
<h1>#14: Consider using a video calling app</h1>
<p>If you don&#8217;t have a big house or aren&#8217;t fond of crowds, you use a video calling app such as FaceTime, Marco Polo or Google Duo. Everyone can enjoy the moment with you, just not in person.</p>
<h1>#15: Open multiple calls at once</h1>
<p>My brother got his mission call at the same time as his best friend.  So both of our families got together and we watched both of them open their calls.  It was double the excitement and double the fun!</p>
<h1>#16: Dress for the occasion</h1>
<p>My nephew wore his suit when he opened his call. He happened to go to the temple earlier that day and decided to keep his suit on. It added a surprisingly nice touch to the event and helped everyone envision him as the missionary he was about to become.</p>
<figure id="attachment_791" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-791" style="width: 717px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-791" src="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Spencer-174x300.jpg" alt="Mission call." width="717" height="1236" srcset="https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Spencer-174x300.jpg 174w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Spencer-768x1324.jpg 768w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Spencer-594x1024.jpg 594w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Spencer-1200x2069.jpg 1200w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Spencer-600x1034.jpg 600w, https://mysillysquirts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Spencer.jpg 1740w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 717px) 100vw, 717px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-791" class="wp-caption-text">My nephew waiting anxiously to open his mission call.</figcaption></figure>
