Gone are the days when you can’t figure out which plastic cup is yours at a party. All you need is a Solo cup holder with marker. Your guests will thank you when they can easily write their name on their cup right when they pick it up. Here’s how to make your own in three easy steps.

I have to give my awesome husband credit more making these cute cup holders. He got up early on my 40th birthday and made them for me. Although you can actually buy these on Amazon, you can make them for a lot cheaper and they’re surprisingly easy. So let’s get started.

Gather your Solo cup holder with marker supplies

My guess is you’ve probably got a lot of these supplies hanging around your garage already. Here is what you’ll need:

• 2 (1-inch thick) pieces of wood that are 5.5″ x 4.25″
• 2 (1-inch thick) pieces of wood that are 5.5″ x 5.5″
• 1 (1-inch thick) piece of wood that is 4.25″ x 4.25″
• Circular saw
• Drill with 7/16 bit
• Nail gun or small nails and a hammer

Step #1: Assemble your cup holder

After cutting your wood into the correct dimensions using a circular saw, place the smallest piece of wood in the center and then arrange the largest pieces of wood opposite each other and the remaining pieces opposite each other as well.

Then lift the outer wood pieces up on their sides until they are all touching. Using a nail gun, nail all of the pieces together, one at a time until they are all secured. Don’t forget to nail the bottom piece to the other pieces as well.

Finally, drill a small hole into one side of one of the pieces of wood. This will be where the permanent marker will go. My husband used a 7/16″ drill bit. You can’t use wood that is thinner than 1″ thick because you wouldn’t have enough room to drill a big enough hole. You can drill as many holes as you want.

Step #2: Paint your cup holder

The sky is the limit on how you decide to paint your cup holder. I had three different types of paint at my house so I tried all three. My favorite though was the barn wood stain. It was the perfect coloring and looked really nice.

Step #3: Add your lettering

I chose three different things to put on each of my cup holders. If you have a vinyl cutter, you can create your own saying, but if you don’t, that’s okay too. Here’s the sayings that I chose:

• Smiley face
• “Mark a cup & fill it up”
• “You get one cup. So, mark it up!”

You can upload them to your vinyl cutter or you can cut them by hand and glue them to your cup holder with Modge Podge.

I love the way these turned out! I am going to put one in my kitchen, one in my camping trailer and then give one away to my mother-in-law. It’s something you can use everyday, at parties or when you’re going camping. Yay!
