These do-it-yourself spray paint t-shirts are cheap and easy and look really awesome too. You’d think we bought them at the store. My boys were way excited with the way they turned out. Here’s how we did it.

My oldest has been asking all summer long to make these spray paint t-shirts and now I know why. They were really easy and turned out super cool. Here’s the steps.

Pick a stencil and cut it out

I put together a whole boat load of stencils and they are all free for your to choose from. Just download below. I created a PDF file for boys and one for girls. You take your pick.

After you choose the stencil that you want to use, print it on carstock or mount it to something sturdy like cardboard or poster board. Then carefully cut it out.

Prep your t-shirt and apply spray adhesive

You next step is to cut out a piece of cardboard and place it inside the t-shirt so the paint doesn’t leak through to the back of the shirt. Then, cover the back of the stencil with a spray adhesive. If you don’t put an adhesive on, the image will turn out undefined.

Apply spray paint to t-shirt

Once the stencil is securely placed on the t-shirt, you can start spraying! You have to use fabric spray paint. If you use regular spray paint, your shirt will be too stiff. Try to do even strokes around the stencil. Don’t put too much on. One quick layer will do the trick.

Give it a few minutes and then carefully remove the stencil from the t-shirt.

My kids love the way these t-shirts turned out. I loved Groot the best.
