Raise your hand if you are tired of filling up water balloons or spending money on expensive “reusable” ones. Yeah, me too. That’s why I’m here to show you how to save time and money with home sponge water bombs. Let’s go!

I have spent many, many hours filling up tiny water balloons and they last literally five minutes once they are done. On the flip side, Bunch of Balloons are easier to fill but again, cost a lot of money for a one-time use. As for magnetic reusable water balloons, they will set you back $25 for only six of them. Plus, I heard they are a choking hazard. So, here we are. We have come full circle to the sponge bombs. They are cheap, easy and can be reused over and over again. Check it out.

Gather your sponge bomb supplies

For less than $10 you can make completely reusable water bombs. Here’s what you’ll need.

• Multi-colored rectangular kitchen sponges (3 sponges makes one bomb)
• Elastic hair ties
• Scissors

Step #1: Cut your sponges

Take your scissors and cut each of the sponges into thirds length wise. There’s no need to measure, just eye ball it. You’ll need 9 lengths to make one sponge water bomb. You can make the bombs all one color or multi-colored. It’s up to you.

Step #2: Tie sponges together

Once your sponges are cut into strips, stack them into three rows, alternating the colors to form a checkered pattern.

Then, take a small elastic hair tie and wrap the sponge strips two times directly in the center. If you don’t have any hair ties, you can also use string or a rubber band.

That’s it! Once your sponges are tied together, you can fluff them out a little and spread out the strips. Voila! That was super easy to make a sponge water bomb, right?

Once you’re done, dunk those little suckers (no pun intended, ha ha) in water and start throwing them at the closest unsuspecting target. Now, if you’re thinking, what kind of games can we play with these sponge water bombs, here’s a list of 25 games to play with sponge bombs.
