Cute DIY snow globes made with oven-baked clay
Ho ho ho! It’s time to make snow globes and they are so tiny and cute. Just grab some polymer clay (oven-bake clay) and start creating. It’s the best activity to get yourself and your kids into the holiday spirit.
As opposed to the traditional snow globes filled with water, we decided to go with the water-less version. Less mess but just as much fun. Plus, we used polymer clay to form our cute figurines to go inside.
Gather your snow globe supplies
I bought most of my supplies at the Dollar Store except for the polymer clay. But you can find these supplies online as well. Here’s what you’ll need:
Form and bake Christmas figurines
My kids LOVE polymer clay. They were so excited to make these snow globes. I was surprised by each of their own creativity. Each of them made their own festive figurine. Just make sure they are tall enough to fill the entire snow globe.
You might need to help the younger kids form their figurines. I always try to give them less polymer clay that you might think. I little goes a long way. Also, make sure they can stand upright on their own.
Bake and glue your polymer clay creations
Place all of your polymer clay figurines on a cookie sheet. Cook in the oven for 30 minutes at 275 Fahrenheit. When they are done cooking, allow them to cool completely before touching them. Then, as an extra protection, you can add a layer of polymer clay glaze. It will provide a smooth satin finish protect your figurines from breaking apart.
Finally, glue your figurines to the inside of your snow globe lids. I used gel super glue so I didn’t have to hold it until it dried. You could also use hot glue as well.
Add faux snow and seal your snow globe
Dump some faux snow into your snow globe. Add as little or as much as you want. Just make sure you can still see your figurine. Once your super glue has dried completely, insert your figurine into the snow globe and screw on the lid. Then you’re done!
Of course, this is a fun project that could work for any holiday, birthday or just a fun activity with your kids. My boys love it so much. All of them can’t wait to hang their own snow globe on the Christmas tree.
Don’t forget to glue your Christmas ribbon around the lid for some cute finishing touches. What fun things do you like doing with polymer clay in your house? Leave your comments below.
