Helpful Instant Pot tips and tricks
As you’re reviewing your cheat sheet, here’s some tips about Instant Pots that will help you along the way.
- Always use at least 1/2 cup of liquid whenever pressure cooking
- It takes about 10-15 minutes for pressure to build before it starts cooking
- Never open the Instant Pot on manual or pressure mode
- Always adjust pressure valve to sealing position before pressure cooking or it won’t cook!
- You can use multiple buttons during on cooking session such as saute, then manual and finally keep warm.
- Natural release is what occurs automatically after the pressure cooking cycle is complete
- Quick release is when you move the valve from sealing to venting after the cooking process is complete
- Do no fill your Instant Pot above the fill line. It may not be able to build enough pressure to start cooking.
Finding the right Instant Pot
The most popular model is the Instant Pot Duo. It is a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, steam, sauté machine, yogurt maker and warmer.
You’ll also want to consider the size of Instant Pot that is best for you. There are three- quart, six-quart and eight-quart models. Three-quart feeds 2-3 people, six feeds 4-6 and eight feeds 7-8 people. I have the six-quart model and it feeds our family of six perfectly.
