Shrinky dink keychains: the perfect LDS girls camp gift
If you are trying to think of a fun LDS girls camp gift, look no further. Here’s a cute, affordable and easy gift that all of your girls will love. Plus, it’s a great way to incorporate your girl camp theme and logo. Check it out!
For girls camp this year, we went on a river trip. It was super fun but I also had to get creative because we couldn’t bring any big or bulky items on the trip. So, I had to think of a girls camp gift that would be lightweight and not too expensive. That’s when I thought of Shrinky Dink keychains. They were so easy! Here’s how to make them.
Gather your LDS girls camp gift supplies
These shrinky dink girls camp keychains are super easy. With just a few supplies, you’ll be on your way. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Printable shrink sheets (make sure you get the printable kind)
- Keychain rings
- Mini ziplock bags
Print your camp logo onto the sheets
I love this gift because it’s a fun way to remember the theme for camp as a fun take-home souvenir. So, you’ll need a camp logo first. Our theme was “You know who you are” from Moana. I designed a bunch of different logo ideas and we let the girls vote on their favorite.
Once you have your logo, insert your printable shrink film into your ink-jet printer and print the logo just like you would with normal paper. I was having my doubts that this would work, but it was perfect! It printed clearly and easily.
Cut and cook the shrink film
Once your YW camp logo is printed on shrink film, it’s time to cut it. I used a paper cutter to cut mine because it had all four straight edges. Then, I made sure I punched a hole in each logo for a keychain later on. If you forget to punch a hole, it’s pretty difficult to punch a hole in it after it’s cooked. So don’t forget!
Once you’ve trimmed each printed logo, it’s time to cook them. Place each printed logo on a parchment-lined cookie sheet. Then, place the cookie sheet in the oven pre-heated to 325 degrees Fahrenheit for 7 minutes. Some people recommend putting a piece of cardboard on top of the shrinky dinks, so they won’t curl, but I don’t put anything on top. They do curl while cooking, but when they are done, they usually lay back down.
They usually shrink to about 20% its original size, so keep that in mind. Right when they come out of the oven, I like to place a heavy book on top of them. It flattens them out nice and smooth. But do it quick! They cool very fast.
Add keychain ring
The last and final step is to add a keychain ring to each of the shrinky dinks when they are done. I placed each of the keychains in a small ziplock bag and stapled a cute note for each of our young women. They loved them!!
The great thing about this LDS girls camp gift is that you can create whatever you want. And I only spent about $12 for everything! Super cheap and super cute. Here’s a little video showing how I made these.
