Pizza is a great way into tricking kids to eating healthy. With the right presentation, toppings and excitement, your kids will be devouring a well-balanced meal and loving it. Here’s some healthy recipes for kids that everyone will love.
So, sometimes I think we overcomplicate dinnertime with our kids. I figure, why not make something that you kids love and just add healthy additions to their favorite meal? Here’s how we did a build your own pizza night with our kids.
Gather your toppings and ingredients
The sky is literally the limit when it comes to building your own pizza. So, here’s the ultimate list to get you started. I’ve broken it down into four categories: crust, sauce and spices, protein and cheese, fruits and veggies.
- Pizza crust
- English muffin
- French bread
- Cauliflower crust
Spices and sauces
- BBQ sauce
- Salt and pepper
- Italian seasoning
Meats and cheeses
- Ground Beef
- Goat cheese
- Monterey Jack
- Artichoke hearts
Prep your pizza crust
So, we bought some pre-made pizza crusts at the grocery store. But you do need to do a little bit of prep before you throw on the sauce and toppings. Just spread a thin layer of olive oil over each pizza crust. If you’re using cauliflower crust, you can skip this step.
Make your pizza creations
Here’s the best part. Start with your sauce, then the cheese and finally all the fixings. My kids of course went for the cheese and bacon and pepperoni. The adults loaded their pizzas with lots of veggies and yummy meats. It’s such a fun dinner to have as a family.
We made these pizzas on Christmas Eve with my mom and it’s was a fun way to spend time together and enjoy some delicious food. We will definitely be doing a “build your own pizza night” again very soon. Hopefully this makes thinking of healthy recipes for kids less daunting. Let me know how your pizza night goes in the comments below.
