Gather your popcorn bar supplies and snacks
There’s a lot of items that you might already have in your pantry and home for this fun food buffet. Here’s everything you’ll need:
- Popcorn bowls
- Popcorn scoop
- Kernels (to pop at home)
- Mini M&Ms
- Heath toffee pieces
- Crushed Oreos
- Mini marshmallows
- Pretzels
- Popcorn seasonings
- Drinks
- Paper bowls
- Cups
- Ice

Print your popcorn poster and labels
I wanted to spice up my popcorn bar, so I designed a cute 8.5×11 poster that says, “Thanks for poppin’ by” and provides instructions about the bar. Then, I designed smaller labels with popcorn jokes and puns to place randomly around the buffet.

Prep your popcorn and toppings
I popped two giant bowls of popcorn, poured melted butter all over it and added some salt. If you have any cute popcorn bowls or wooden apple baskets, you can put you popcorn in those. If not, a regular big bowl would work. You can also buy giant bags of pre-popped movie popcorn if you don’t want to go to the trouble of popping it yourself.

You can also use small popcorn containers to put all the toppings in. I didn’t have any of those though, so I just put the toppings in little white dessert bowls. It was perfect. Put each topping in a bowl with a spoon for your guests to scoop.

Don’t forget the popcorn seasonings. I only had four different flavors, but you can buy an eight-pack of mini popcorn seasoning jars. I also filled a few bowls with Crack Jack popcorn for those who like caramel popcorn. If you are feeling ambitious, you can make your own caramel popcorn or even peanut butter popcorn.

Set up your buffet table
I put the entire popcorn bar on a long rectangular table. Just place a big table cloth over the table. Then, get another piece of fabric and place it over two small boxes on one side of the table. Place your two big bowls of popcorn on those covered boxes. This gives your buffet table a little bit of height. Then place the seasons, topping bowls, drinks, cups, bowls and anything else you want on the table.

Finally, place your popcorn buffet poster on an easel in the middle of the table and place the table signs throughout the table. They add such a fun touch to the buffet.

That’s it! My son and his friends absolutely LOVED this DIY popcorn bar. They especially loved all the popcorn jokes and puns. I surprised myself how easy it was. This is definitely a fun party food idea that I am going to keep in my back pocket for next time.
