So, who doesn’t like to do the dab? I know my kids do. That’s why I knew this cute and super decoration on our garage door would be exactly what my son would want. Plus, you don’t have to just stop at birthdays. You can use this door decoration for Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Teacher Appreciation Week and the list goes on. So, here’s how I did it:
Gather your door decoration supplies
The beauty of this project is that it doesn’t require very many supplies. You’ll need the following:
- White, black and yellow butcher paper (at least 7 feet long and 3 feet wide, depending on the size of your door)
- Scissors
- Glue or tape
You can also switch up the colors to whatever you want. I chose black for the person, white for the letters and yellow for the background. Adjust this decoration however you like.
Download, print and cut out your letters
You can print out your letters for this poster by clicking the link below. Or if you prefer, you can also just write the phrase directly on the poster instead of printing it out. I designed the letters on an 11×17 printout. So, you can just email the file to your local printer and they can print it for you.

Hang up each piece
Start hanging up your poster one piece at a time. First hang the main poster. Then add the cut out letters. You can glue them on or tape them.
Finally, you’ll need to free-hand draw the image of the dabbing man, cut it out and glue it to the poster. I would recommend cutting out the man in pieces so there’s a defined outline kind of like the picture below.
Write kind notes on the poster
Whoever this poster is for, whether it’s a teacher, child or parent, use the empty space on the poster to write a kind note to them. The more notes the better to make that person feel extra special. I know my son loved all the notes from his brothers.
Here’s a link to those letters that you can cut out for your door decoration below just in case you missed it.
