How to make your own sea turtle birthday cake
My son requested a sea turtle birthday cake for his fifth birthday. It was surprisingly super easy (compared to some of my other kids’ requests). Here’s everything you need to know to make your own today.
So, don’t sweat. This whole cake only took me about and hour and a half. Even the most novice of cake decorators (like myself) can do it.
Gather sea turtle birthday cake supplies
Here’s everything you’ll need to make your awesome sea turtle birthday cake:
- Blue, brown and black food coloring
- Decorating kit (I love the PrepWorks brand)
- One cake mix
- Butter cream frosting (this is my favorite recipe)
- Cutting board and foil
Start baking!
The reason why this cake is so easy is because you only have to bake one cake. I baked half of my cake in an oven-safe bowl and the only half in an 8″x6″ Pyrex pan. Once it’s cooked, you’ll need to shape the head, arms and feet using the cake from the Pyrex. The cake from the bowl will be the shell.
Frost like crazy
Pull out your creativity on this one. I used brown frosting for the shell and green frosting for the body. The sky is the limit.
You can try a variation of colors. I just stuck with the traditional ones. Your child will flip for this cute cake.
