How to make rolled felt flower pens (no sew)
Rolled felt flower pens are the perfect homemade gift for birthdays, mother’s day, teacher appreciation or just because. Plus, they are so easy, your kids can join in on the fun. Take a look.
I have to give credit to my sister-in-law, Janell, who gave me the idea to make these rolled felt flower pens. My sewing skills are definitely sub-par, so that’s why I love making them. No matter the color you use, these flowers always turn out to cute. You can cater them to that special loved one in mind. So, here we go!
Gather your rolled felt flower pen supplies
Most likely, you already have most of your supplies at home anyway. You only need five items. Here’s what you’ll need to get started:
- Floral tape
- Multi-colored felt sheets
- Pens (non clicking type)
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors
Trace and cut
First, wrap the floral tape around a pen. Then, pick any color of felt sheet that you would like. Then, trace around the outside of an old DVD or CD onto the piece of felt. You can trace a smaller or bigger circle, just depending on how big or little you want your flower. Then, start cutting in a circular pattern until you reach the middle.
You should end up with a swirl shape. It’s okay if it’s not perfect. No two flowers are the same. Make sure you leave a small circle shape in the middle, you will glue that part to the pen.
Roll and glue
Begin with the outside tip of your felt swirl shape. Begin rolling it in until you reach the center. Make sure you keep it nice and tight. Once you reach the center, hot glue the end of the swirl to the flower. You should end up with a little flap hanging off the edge of the flower.
Then, put a dab of hot glue on the back of the flower and carefully place the back of your pen on it. Hold the pen upright until it dries.
Add finishing touches
Finally, hot glue the extra flap to the pen below the flower. Then cut out some leaf shapes and hot glue them around the base of the flower. Then you’re done!
You’re done. That’s it! It takes me about 10 minutes to do one flower. Keep going and you’ll make an entire bouquet. My son wanted to give some of these cute rolled felt flower pens to his other mom, so he decorate a metal can with felt and ended up with an adorable a vase. So cute.
I loved how these turned out and I cannot wait to make some more. They are so adorable.
